British erotic artist, Bircham slams London Police for compromising rape case

The case of a Jamaican born British erotic artist, Ruth Bircham, who was raped by a Nigerian, Mr. Olufemi Ali, in London has taken a new dimension as the London Metropolitan Police discharges the offender without charging him to court, even after the culprit had in the process of investigation openly admitted to the police that he committed the offence.

During a chat with Bulkybon Periscopes, the rape victim said the police said they did not charge the rapist to court, because, after the crime was committed, she had sent a whatsapp message to ask the rapist why he did what he did to her.

According to Bircham, “The Councillor asked me why I contacted the rapist after he had committed the crime.  I told her the rapist was my social media friend before he raped me. I was terribly shaken by his evil action and wanted to know why he did what he did to me. 

“It is shocking to be raped by someone you least expected to harm you, that was why I called to ask why he took advantage of my ill health to rape me. Rape does not come with a manual to say this is what they will do and what they will not do to you, when the culprits come to you in any form as friends or complete strangers. And the Councilor agreed with my reasoning.” 

However, Bircham wonders why the UK police victimize victims of rape by treating them like criminals while treating rapists as saints. She says she does not need to prove that she is a victim of rape if the police had done their job well from the onset after she reported the case. Instead, she has been victimized by the police, either because she is not a white woman, or the rapist had bought them over.

Reiterating how her case has been badly treated by the police, she offers that, “I am not a solicitor. I am an artist who has been raped and treated unfairly by the police and the UK justice system. My main focus is my art, family, friends and fans and nothing else.  I don't give a shit about the UK and their lies, perjury, bullshit and racist fucking laws that incriminate or victimize black people that are victims of crimes.  All I know is that in between what I am doing with my art, I am letting the world know that what the UK police have done to me is wrong, for not charging the rapist to court after he has admitted to committing the crime. It shows that the police have compromised.

“This type of rubbish must never be allowed to happen to another victim with a repeat of the police and racist justice system, sweeping it under the carpet.” 

In a civilized society as the UK claims to be, all rape and sexual assault cases should be tried in the courts of England, in front of a judge and 12 juries.  It is not the duty of police to discharge a serious crime of rape after it has been reported to them. In truly honest and non-racial climes, all rape victims are usually assigned with a solicitor, a counsellor, and a forensic hospital doctor that does not shy away from examining the victim’s cervix to collect evidence to prove the crime. Based on the information given by the lively erotic artist, these were not done in her own rape case.

At no time at all should ordinary inexperienced and biased police personnel be included in investigating any rape case. Special detectives are the persons that ought to handle such criminal cases of rape, by collecting evidence from the victim, while a counsellor is assigned to the victim, and works alongside solicitors for the victim, and forensic doctors.

From the look of things, Bircham’s rape case was tried and discharged by the suspiciously dubious London Metropolitan police, instead of charging the rapist to court even after he had admitted to committing the crime, according to information shared by the victim. All rape cases should be tried in the law courts not at any police station. Victims should be given every support by listening to them, and made to feel that they are being protected and not selectively intimidated and victimized based on their racial diversity or skin complexion. 

In this wise, the erotic artist posits that “UK law system should give better treatment and protection to rape victims irrespective of their ancestral background, instead of victimizing them because they are not white.  A rapist must be treated as a rapist until the court says otherwise.  It is not the duty of police to determine the fate of any criminal.”

Basic common sense was enough to have made the London police know that all dangerous criminals like rapists should be held in prison until the date of their cases with solicitors. These are some of the conditions that the UK legal system should put in place for rapists.

In Bircham’s very candid view, she emphasizes that “I have been treated as if I am a criminal who had committed a crime for reporting a rapist to the police. My mistake was that I reported that I was raped by Olufemi Ali on the 24th June 2017. Apart from hanging on why I called the rapist to ask him his reason for raping me, as one of the dubious reasons for setting him free, the police discharged my case by conspiratorially using an inadmissible un-amended statement without the knowledge of my contact witness, who is my friend. 

“My friend (witness) told the police on phone that she felt that she had written something wrong in her statement. The officer, Det LP told her that she could amend any error in her statement when she comes back from a trip she made outside the UK that period.  My friend left the UK on the 20th of July 2017. Yet, the discharge letter that sets the rapist free was also written on the 20th of July 2017 and sent out to me by PC CA, after I received a call from PC CA. My friend’s right to correct the error she made was denied her.  

“She says that there is something more to the hasty discharge of the case than meets the eye. I also strongly reason along that line; otherwise, why did they discharge and acquit the rapist without waiting for the amendment of the witness’s statement? When my friend came back to the UK, she wrote to Det LP asking her why she had used her un-amended statement as one of the reasons to discharge the case. Afterwards, my friend got a phone call from PC AW. He told my friend to withdraw her statement, but she insisted that she will not withdraw her statement because she knows her rights.

“But out of the blues, the PC CA, then told my friend that they never quoted any part of her un-amended statement in the discharge letter. But my friend countered the PC CA by pointing out his lies, by telling him that she had seen the discharged letter and have read sections of her un-amended statement quoted in the discharge letter sent out to her friend  (me).

“By this time I had already draw the attention of my Councillor, MP, the Mayor of London and the high police commissioner D, to the issue. Suddenly, I received a letter from the DPS saying that they had received a letter from me, when I did not write any letter to the DPS or to the IPPC.

“The dubious letter showed a chart of the PC AW implicating himself in the letter. But I had told this policeman that I would write my own letter to the DPS when I was ready. He criminally went ahead and wrote a letter without my knowledge to the IPPC and implicated himself and DET LP by impersonating me through the fake letter he wrote.

From the foregoing, Bircham has released the can of worms of the London Metropolitan Police that handled her rape case. This calls the integrity of the London Police to question, as far as her rape case is concerned.

Pinpointing the criminality of impersonation by the police, Bircham says “PC AW robbed me of my right to write a letter to the IPPC, by impersonating me. I suspect he committed that criminal offence with the hope that they won't touch on the facts that he had committed perjury on the discharge letter by using un-amended document to discharge my case.”

The reason behind the perjury and impersonation could clearly be attributed to the police grand plan of denying the rape victim an opportunity to get her case reviewed as every rape victim has the right for her case to be reviewed. 

“The police perjury is further more horrible for depending on an un-amended witness statement and the digital media whereby I had written to Olufemi Ali (whose current name on facebook is Alifem Alifem) asking him why he raped me, including the text message with which I sent him my address before he raped me. And also the content of my facebook chat where I had accused him of being bad, are pointers to the conspiracy used by the police to discharge my case by halting it from receiving a hearing at a law court for trial. It therefore blocks opportunity to put a dangerous rapist in prison and prevent him from further capitalizing on using the social media to hunt for other unsuspecting victims to rape. I believe some type of corruption took place between the police and the rapist. The police compromised.”

The highly celebrated British erotic artist with large followership on social media also said the police added insult to her injury because, “The PC CA insinuates that my artworks and my profession was the cause for the rape that happened to me as he said ‘men think with their dicks.’

It is very essential that all rape victims should be assigned forensic doctors who examine the cervix for proof of the crime, solicitors to defend their legal and human rights, and counsellors to help them overcome the effects of the trauma. Unfortunately, none of these aforementioned experts is assigned to victims of rape in the U.K, which hypocritically prides itself as a kingdom of uprightness. Instead, rapists are given free of charge solicitors, while the victims of rape are not given such free legal service by the judicial system in the U.K.

To make matters worse for victims of rape, it is very difficult or almost impossible for them to get a solicitor to defend their right even when the victims are ready to pay for legal services of solicitors. One begins to wonder why many solicitors reject the handling of the cases of rape victims in the U.K. This attitude further frustrates victims of rape, and it seems the entire society is against the victims, while rapists are treated as kings of the land, parading freely to rape more females. It is insane.  

It is a shame that the UK which promotes itself as a kingdom of morality could support a rapist to go free to keep committing his crime on other unsuspecting females while the victim is blamed for falling prey. What hypocrites the UK and its police have proven to be!

The Italian Dollars

He had gone to the village well armed with a revolver 38 pistol. He knew the business he was doing is a pretty risky one. If any of his would-be-victims happens to discover his devilish dubious plan, he had no doubt none of them would waste no time to lynch him.

“Don’t ever underestimate your target, Adewale. Always be on the look out for surprises. Don’t always waste your bullets for any situation that diplomacy can be used to handle. Every crime involves investment of precious time, money, intelligence, energy and tools. None must be wasted for nothing until you achieve your goals,” he would say to himself each time he was preparing to embark on his condemnable missions.

Adewale’s way of operating was always business-like.  He is a dashing handsome-looking young man at 25 years. With a pointed nose well etched on his oval face coupled with deep sexy eyes, and McClean white teeth always showing whenever he deliciously beams a cunning smile; none of his victims would ever think he is a devil’s incarnate. Always carrying a white office file with some fake letters of invitation in it, he creates an image of a well bred gentleman, as he speaks and walks, counting his steps measuredly like an aristocrat. Villagers always have respect for his likes, as they think such file carrying gentlemen are a rare breed that deserves respect from every local folk who know the value of education.

Ekeme, whose parents were farmers in Odu State of Nigeria was sixteen years old when a man came to her parents in Emeke village looking for young girls and boys to take to major cities in Nigeria and Europe in the guise of a humanitarian Non Governmental Organization, trying to alleviate the sufferings of poor people in the country.

“I am an official of the Help The Poor People (HTPP) organization who are very much concerned with the high level of illiteracy in the country. That is why I have come to meet you to ask for your consent to release your daughter to me, for a journey to Italy to further her education,” Mr. Adewale Ighomegwenor had told Ekeme’s parents.

Their faces were filled with light of joy at the prospect of their only child traveling to Italy, the white man’s land to further her education. Suddenly, Mrs. Iroro Igho-Igho, Ekeme’s mother sprang from the ekpeti (small local stood) she was sitting on, under an orange tree where Adewale had met them having their lunch the very first day he approached them with the proposal to take Ekeme to Italy, in front of their house.

“Hey! Oghene (God)! Thank you for hearing my prayer at last. Ah! So, my daughter will soon be among the league of youths of this village who have been traveling to the white man’s country over the years. Hey, idolla-ay, idolla-ay, (Dollars, dollars): I will start spending like the Atighorghors, very soon. Oghene, I thank you-o.”

“Sit down woman!” Mr. Iroro, Ekeme’s father barked at his wife; and said further “Idolla-ay, idolla-ay. It is not only dollars, it is pounds sterling you will be spending soon.” He mocked her.

“What is that suppose to mean? Are you saying you are not in support of our daughter’s  traveling out to further her education to make us enjoy in future?” She replied while staring into her husband’s eyes as she abruptly stopped dancing.

“Woman! Look before you leap! We scarcely know this man offering to take our daughter to Italy, in the name of one society helping people in Nigeria. Many things are happening in this country these days. I don’t have money to give to anybody to procure any document we will not see the head or tail at the end of the day, in the name of traveling. Many people have been duped through this type of promise in the past. My hand is not in this Italian promise,” her husband had pointed out.

“Oh, Oga! Are you suspecting I am a 419 (dupe)? Never mind. All I need from you is your consent to release your daughter for the trip. Once you agree, I will come along with a photographer to snap a passport of hers to do her international passport and other necessary documents for her traveling”. Adewale, explained, smiling cunningly.

“You mean, you will be responsible for the sponsorship of her trip totally?”

"No sir!" Adewale answered.

“Tell me how everything will go then,” he said.

“After snapping her passport photograph, I will use it to procure international passport for her. It is after the international passport has been obtained that you will need to contribute a token to process other important documents to make her traveling possible,” he told him.

“So, how much is the cost of the documents, and how long will it take to get them?” he inquired, as he was getting convinced that Adewale may be trusted. Adewale was very glad that the somehow sensible looking Iroro was beginning to fall into his dangerous scheme. “Yes! He is beginning to cooperate. Another victim is already in my net,” he thought to himself inwardly.

“Well, to make certain areas clear to you, I just want to let you know I am not a stranger in this village. I am an indigene of this community though I was born in Lagos. I have been helping many youths to travel to Europe and anywhere they choose to go worldwide. Anyway, back to your question. It will only cost N300,000 to get the documents. But never mind if you don't have the money now; I will use my own money to procure them within a week but you will pay me later,” he had said; his mind racing and calculating as he knew Iroro is a rational thinking person and could refuse to bring the amount if he asks him to do so without showing him some fake documents he intends to bring later.

“Osanobua – o! That is a large sum of money. And you promise to use your own money to get the documents for my daughter so I can pay later!” he exclaimed, looking pleasantly surprised at Adewale’s seeming generosity.

“Yes of course. What am I an official of HTPP for, if I cannot use my position to help my people?” he had said rhetorically.

While the two men were discussing, Mrs. Iroro and her daughter were all ears, smiling and winking at each other from time to time. As soon as Adewale had assured them he would get the documents for Ekeme’s father to pay later, her mother jumped like a panther from where she had been standing when she stopped dancing, and used her two hands to pull her husband up from his seat, to stand on his feet.

“Come on darling, let us dance to this miraculous development in our life,” she had said, and started singing a melodious song in vernacular thus: “Orwa-iroro, orwa iroro, orwa iroro nominoje, orwa iroro nomino je-o.”

Some of their nearby neighbours who heard the couple singing and dancing, rushed to the scene to savour her milky tune and inquired about the reason for their celebration. In a twinkle of an eye, the news of Ekeme’s luck to travel to Italy swept the entire ears in the village, like the roar of thunder. Many came running helter-skelter to the Iroros’ household to confirm the story from the horse’s mouth, while Adewale was still there.

Adewale was thrilled by the reaction of the couple. The Iroros’ enthusiasm and celebration made some other villagers go on their knees, begging him to show them the same kindness he had shown to the Iroros. He was mesmerized by the way they rolled on the ground and begged to be included in the bandwagon of his doomed victims. However, unknown to him, some of the villages had decided to lay ambush for him.

On his way from Emeke village about 6p.m, to board a boat from River Otokutu coast to Okamuka town, from where he would board a bus to Benin city, where other of his syndicate were based, Adewale was hijacked by ten of the village elders. When they appeared from nowhere along a footpath to the river side, he was frightened. “Oh damn it! They have discovered my evil plan!” He had said inwardly and tried to escape from them with the speed of moving bullet. But, even if they wanted to capture him, he was not going to surrender so lamely.

With this development, he wanted to dash into a nearby swamp, yet he contemplated about the possibilities of using his gun to scare them off, to make his escape easier. He used his right hand fingers to feel the bulge of the gun tucked in-between his right hip and the dirty brown jean he wore. Using his eyes, he calculated the number of the villagers who had sprung up to deal with him as he thought. He thought about how many bullets he had in the gun, in case his assailants were also armed to engage him in a gun battle.

“Oh what kind of mess have I put myself into today, for the sake of earning Italian Dollars?” he queried himself inwardly, as he jettisoned the option of dashing into the swamp, and face his 'ambushers' one-on-one.

Just as he was about to lift up the extra-large T-shirt he wore, concealing the gun, and bring it out to engage them, his intended action was deflated when eight young bare busted virgins with ripe inviting breasts came from behind the ten elderly men he had presumed must have come to deal with him. Perhaps they have found out one way or the other that he was an agent of sorrow. Adewale was taken aback by this unexpected development....

Birth of a new dawn for ANA Lagos

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Lagos chapter in preparation for 2017 ANA International Convention slated for October 26^th to 29^th which will be holding at Makurdi Benue State, held its elections on Saturday 12 August, to usher in a new set of executive members who took over the mantle of leadership of the chapter from Mr. Amos Femi Onileagbon whose four years in office as chairman, ended on the election day.

Among other events and activities in the programme of the day, it was the election that made the most impressive impact on all members who attended. The number of members who were present at the reading was impressive unlike other normal days of reading. Before the elections day, the monthly meetings had never witnessed such turnout.

Tempers however flared when the outgoing chairman raised a constitutional dust about one of the Association’s rules, when he stood his ground that the two delegates from the national executive council who incidentally are also members of ANA Lagos chapter, in the persons of Mr. Toafeek Olatubosun Joseph, national P.R.O. South, and Mr. Adewusi Komolafe, a national ex-officio member who came with the intension to conduct the election, should only be given the privilege to just act as observers. Femi said the congress should rather appoint an electoral officer who will choose some members to conduct the election as electoral team.

After an interval of argument about the constitutionality of his claim concerning the national executive members to act as observers, which he could not substantiate due to lack of a copy of the Association’s constitution, the congress merely allowed sleeping dogs to lie, to make sure the election was held. Hence, the duo humbly acted as observers.

The motion for the dissolution of the former executive team was moved by Mr. Onwuzurike Donald Ejike and seconded by Mr. Blessed Mudiaga Adjekpagbon. Mr. Folu Agoi, an erstwhile chairman of the chapter appointed Hon. Feyi-Abiodun Oyeniyi as the Electoral team chairman and was assisted by Olusanya Anjorin to form a two-man electoral team.

However, two members contested for the chapter’s chairmanship position, namely- Mr. Olu Okekanye, an immediate past vice chairman, and Mr. Yemi Adebiyi, a former Secretary. Both of them had served in the previous executive council that had just elapsed.

Out of twenty-three ballot papers that were certified by the electoral team before the election commenced, Okekanye had two votes, while one ballot paper was voided, and Adebiyi won with a landslide of nineteen votes at the end of the proceedings.

He won perhaps, because of his pre-election speech through which he pointed that, “With my zeal to resuscitate the dwindling fortunes of ANA Lagos, I won the chapter’s secretary position during the past tenure when I was 60years. Now, after two years I am presenting myself to occupy the position of Chairman in order to infuse more energy to attract younger writers into the chapter.”

Other newly elected members of the current executive includes, Mr. Ayo Vaughan Babatunde as Vice Chairman; Ms. Nwafor Brenda as Secretary; Ms. Abigail Ohioro as Financial Secretary; Ms. Davies Lynda as Treasurer; and Ms. Irabor Margret as P.R.O.

While thanking the congress on behalf of his newly elected team, Adebiyi who is an author of several novels, said “I am going to work assiduously to bring back the lost glory of ANA Lagos chapter and replace its image on its usual elevated position. My tenure will by God’s grace be a new dawn for all members.”

BREAKING NEWS: Many private schools in Lagos unaware of newly approved 2017-2020 list of books

...Some private schools' proprietors blame Lagos State Ministry of Education for late release of newly approved list of books

The euphoria that greeted the newly approved list of books by the Lagos State Primary and Secondary Curriculum Services Department under the state’s Ministry of Education is beginning to resonate sadly in some quarters, especially among some private schools operating in the state.

The unawareness of many private schools authority about the newly approved list for the next academic session beginning from the resumption of school in September 2017, came to light when Bulkybon Periscopes visited various private schools in different areas of the state to introduce some of the newly approved books to them.

Many proprietors of private schools said the new list is already belated for use by their schools as they have given out lists of books to students and parents in July for the 2017/2018 curriculum of studies before the recent public presentation of the new lists on August 7 to 11, 2017 at Ikeja Junior Secondary School, in Bolade area of Oshodi, Lagos.

Speaking under anonymity, one of the proprietors exclaimed upon seeing the brochure of the newly approved list, “What! Why did they release the list so late after we have already given out lists of books to parents to buy for their children for the next session starting from September 2017? It means we can only start using the newly approved list from September 2018. It is not binding on us to buy books based on the 2017-2020 newly approved list of books just released by the Ministry of Education.”

It seems there was no adequate publicity on the part of the Lagos State Ministry of Education in terms of informing many private schools' owners about the Lagos State 2017 Major Books Review that culminated in the approval of the new lists for both primary and secondary schools curriculum of studies that will commence from September 2017 to 2020; hence, the lack of knowledge about the newly approved list of books by a large number of private schools' administrators.

From the foregoing, it means publishers whose books are among the newly approved lists have to sell their books to mostly only government owned schools for 2017-2018 academic terms, in compliance with the Lagos State approved new lists of curriculum of studies, as many private schools owners have expressed dismay at the late release of the new lists, and declares that it is not binding on them.

As public schools (owned by the state government) are still on holidays, it is not yet known whether they are aware of the new development or not.

The Ruth Bircham’s rape case is becoming more interesting by the day as she discloses that the Police have asked her witness (name withheld) to withdraw her statement so that the case can be closed, but the witness refused. She informed Bulkybon Periscopes of this new development on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.

may have compromised by setting the accused man free and subsequently trying to gag the victim’s witness, while stylishly asking Bircham to keep the issue out of media consumption.

The question that comes to the mind of an average reasonable person considering the ways the police have been handling the case to the complainant's dissatisfaction is, “How much did the accused man might have offered the police as bribe to kill the case?”

The world is waiting as Bircham says, “No retreat, no surrender until my victory is attained.”

It would be recalled that the complainant has severally pointed out on social media that, she is fighting for justice not only for herself, but for other women and young female children who have been similarly gagged by any police organisation worldwide, from expressing their pains to the public after being raped, while the police claims to be protecting the victims’ identity by making them anonymous; thereby putting some vocal victims into a state of psychological paralysis and immeasurable hellish trauma; as a result of denying them their fundamental human right to express their emotions and offload acres of stress building castles on their mind..

From the background of Bircham’s outcry, if the London Metropolitan Police wants to save its already questionable image based on the shady ways she says the officers in charge handled her rape case from the onset, coupled with her recent information that her witness is being intimidated to withdraw her (witness) statement to make the case valueless, then the police no doubts need to put its house in order by giving fair treatment to the victim and her witness, and charge the case to court as soon as possible according to her demand for justice. Anything short of that, is tantamount to the police aiding and encouraging more rapists to have a feast of raping women at anytime and place they chose.
Nonetheless, in a letter sent to Bircham by an officer (name withheld) of the Metropolitan Police which the complainant intimated Bulkybon Periscopes with, the officer expressly stated that: "I understand you are unhappy with the decision that I have made and you feel that the evidence has been misinterpreted. I have directed that 'Ms...' (witness name withheld) be contacted about the statement that she has given and we will discuss with her any points that she wishes to amend or clarify..... I have explained that my decision to take no further action currently stands, however I will take into consideration any further evidence that 'Ms...' (witness name withheld) offers."
Based on the excerpts from the letter, the world expects the Metropolitan Police to live up to its duty of standing by the truth by allowing the witness amend any error she had made in her evidence which may have made the police to prematurely set the accused man free. Maintaining peace and order, while defending victims of rape and other crimes by making sure that culprits of crimes face the music, is what the world expects from the police henceforth.
